5 Things to Know Before Starting a Business in Florida

1. Pick the right legal structure (usually an LLC)
Most small businesses in Florida start as an LLC (Limited Liability Company). That means if the business runs into legal trouble or debt, your personal property — your home, your car — stays protected; it can't be taken to cover business debts. 2. Know the difference between an ITIN and an SSN
If you don't have a Social Security Number, you can still start a business using an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number). A lot of people don't realize this is an option.
